Forensic Sciences
The group of Forensic Science at the Center for Advanced Studies and Technology (CAST) is led by Cristian D’Ovidio, MD, PhD. He is an Associate Professor of Forensic Sciences at the “G. d’Annunzio” University Medical School of Chieti-Pescara and a practicing medical examiner in civil and criminal matters.
The research group provides consultancy for Ethics and Legal aspects of scientific research. In particular, the team has gathered considerable experience in the field of informed consent, privacy and tissue sampling for research purposes, according to National and International regulations.
The facility also provides consultancy and assistance for possible lines of research involving the use of tissues taken from cadaver, considering the recent innovations introduced by L. n. 10, February 10th 2020, which regulates the possibility of using cadavers tissues for scientific research and training purposes.
Currently, research activities are devoted to the identification of markers that can be used in the post-mortem diagnosis of specific causes of death and to the evaluation of multiple biomolecular patterns, in order to find new methods for Post Mortem Interval (PMI) more accurate estimation.
